"Positive room 2.0" in Ivano-Frankivsk: makeover of hospital reality

Positive room - is It is a bright, comfortable and functional area for children that are currently undergoing treatment in hospitals. The room will be divided into 4 zones: creative zone, play zone, reading and educational zones with special toys and materials so that children are not isolated from the society and could positively struggle the disease.

Positive room will be created in Department of Pulmonary Tuberculosis and Meningitis for Children of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Phthisio-Pulmonary Center. Three others are planned in Rivne, Kharkiv and Dnipro.

`Each year around 200 children stay in Department from 2 to 9 months. During the treatment period they cannot go to school ...and stay isolated from society. We are not able to organize some kind of activities or educational process in hospital rooms, so the need in such room is extremely high. Besides, we all know that positive emotions and comfortable conditions will help children to recover faster and easier`, - says Head of the Department, doctor Oksana Golubchak.

Olena Oleksyn, our senior project coordinator in Ivano-Frankivsk says - `We are very satisfied with the cooperation with the hospital. Right from the first day, we received needed support for the project`s realization. Hospital management decided to get involved too and reinstalled old windows and radiators by themselves in this room, and this is a good example of how our charity initiatives make positive changes and give impulses for changes to those who stay in this surrounding`.

`The aim of the project Positive Room is to provide a comfortable and colorful space where kids can have fun, read, catch up with school classes, practice their creativity and receive positive emotions, we have created design with appropriate room planning and furniture. The Department also has its own teacher that covers school educational program with children and volunteers that organize free time activities for small patients. By the way, the hospital is very close to our office so we may track the progress of repair works or just visit patients any time we want`, - says Tetiana Mandybur, project coordinator.

In October 2017 Fund has already implemented similar project in Wrocław Clinic of Endocrinology and Diabetology for Children (Poland) with the Association and other partners. The idea for this project was presented to the Fund by Wroclaw employees in SoftServe. Having such a good experience, we decided to continue working on this project in children's hospitals in Ukraine.

Charity Fund `Open Eyes` invites other companies to donate to the projects` realization and create a Positive Room for small patients in four Ukrainian hospitals at once.
